No mention for the President’s Political Plans

This day July 27, 2009, as the media aired on television, our President Mrs. Gloria Arroyo had just spoken of her 54-minute speech. And as expected of her State of the Nation Address, the president had mentioned and highlighted the current government’s achievements in terms of education, economics and etc. And how these reforms gave our government enough resources to help protect our people which had helped us surpass the shocking crises that other countries failed to overcome. She had mentioned about the country’s scarcity and had spoken of the governments actions that had somehow helped our poor nation.

She may have enumerated several of the government’s accomplishments but it is clear that up to now, the Philippines is still suffering from poverty and that many of us still lay and sleep without having something to eat for the night. The government may have given out lands to some to of the Filipinos but many still lay in the streets without a home to return to. A large sum of audience has even given a loud applauded when the President said the she had asked several medical companies to slash their medicine prices in half. She has indeed mentioned her achievements in Telecommunications, in Tourism, and etc. But the SONA failed to deliver adequate information of the governments plans to save our country from crises that this country is encountering.

Some of us had waited for this day to come, to hear the President’s SONA and hear out what she will say but some of us had totally lost interest regarding this matter and had just chosen to stay and wait for the rumors to reach. But others have given out clear interest whether or not the President will be running for the next election. In which she also said the she “never expressed the desire” to extend her term but had never given us clear thoughts of her plans in terms of her political status when her term ends next year. Some say that the Mrs. Gloria Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address may have mentioned her lack of interest for the next election but she was not saying goodbye which others interpret that the President may still have plans to extend her term next election and other say that the statement was not an assurance that she will not be running for president next election. Other also thinks that if she won’t be running for President in the next election, there is a big chance that she may run for other positions in the government in the next election.

Running for the next election or not, what really matters is how will the government be able to help improve our country and take us away from poverty. How will they be able to help the poor citizens of the Philippines rise, stand, and face the problems that we are facing right now? The Philippines have achieved rise in the economy as the President stated in her SONA, but the President failed to discuss the government’s plans in the coming future. But it was understandable also that the President in her goodwill had worked hard to earn the accomplishments she have spoken of in her SONA.
